Playground Upgrades

Playgrounds are great places for kids to play outdoors . In Ballina Shire there are over 45 playgrounds that Council maintains.

Council has developed the Playground Upgrade Plan to ensure the community has access to quality playgrounds. The Plan also provides a framework for the upgrade and replacement of playground equipment.

There are three levels of playgrounds; local, district and regional. This heirachy supports different population catchment sizes, which determines the equipment needed for each playground

The Plan identifies the following renewal program:

Existing sites for upgrade:

  • Pop Denison Park, East Ballina
  • Ross Park, Lennox Head.

New sites for installation:

  • Porter Park, West Ballina (under construction)
  • Captain Cook Park, Ballina
  • Cawarra Park, Ballina
  • Serpentine Park, East Ballina
  • Faulks Reserve, West Ballina.

Existing sites for playground removal:

(at the expiry of the current equipment’s economic life):
  • Weerama Park, West Ballina

Council currently manages its playgrounds in accordance with relevant Australian Standards for the benefit of the community. An action plan has been prepared. The works in the action plan are the highest priority recommended in a recent audit. This process is important to ensure Council meets its duty of care with its management of playgrounds. Our objective is to ensure our parks comply with the relevant standards.
