The project comprises the construction of a 3 metre wide timber boardwalk along Bridge Drive, Wardell between the existing village jetty and towards the Pacific Highway overbridge.
The boardwalk will be approximately 70 metres long, and will be built along the section of Bridge Drive where there is very narrow river bank edge. The boardwalk will provide pedestrian access along this very narrow river bank edge.
The boardwalk construction will be undertaken by contractors, Bell Rock Marine, and is now scheduled to be completed during early 2017. The contractor commenced piling work in late September for two weeks with a local subcontractor, and then finished the piling work in late November 2016. The contractor will be off-site for December and January and will resume work after the Christmas and New Year holiday period. The project has been delayed in this early stage due to an administrative matter with the renewal of a Licence from the Department of Industry (Lands) and a subsequent Permit from the Department of Primary Industries (Fisheries).
Access to riverbank and for motorists on Bridge Drive
During the December Christmas period and the January New Year holiday period there will be no construction, and the previous restrictions including temporary construction fencing has now been removed
Following completion of the boardwalk by Bell Rock Marine, it will be Council’s task to finish a concrete path connection from the boardwalk, under the highway overbridge and through to the Cedar Street intersection.
Cost of project
The total project budget for the Wardell boardwalk and footpath is $540,000.
