Minimise your waste

Ballina Council has put an organic bins system in place because we recognise that composting at home can be tricky and attracts rodents which can be a problem in urban areas.

If you do want to try to turn your organic waste into compost at home, here are some guides that will help you.

The two most popular methods are:

Home Composting

Worm farming

Home composting items can be purchased at your local hardware store.

Avoiding food waste

Avoid takeaway packaging

Small changes to your everyday activities can provide substantial benefits to the environment and in our community. If you’re heading out to eat, support businesses with a focus on sustainable practices, use reusable items for takeaway food and drink, and where possible eat in to use ceramic cups, foodware and cutlery.

Remember to Pack These Items When Leaving the House: Refillable water bottle, reusable compact shopping bag, reusable cup, reusable straw if required. Say No to: Takeaway cups, plastic straws and cutlery, over packaged foods, single use plastic bags
