Healthy Waterways Community Seminar

Wednesday 28 March 2018

6.00pm (for 6.30pm start)

Ballina Beach Resort, Cedar Crescent and Compton Drive, East Ballina

Special Guests: Dr Norm Duke (James Cook University) and Mr Anthony Acret (Rous County Council)

Community members are invited to attend Ballina Shire Council’s second Healthy Waterways Seminar on Wednesday 28 March 2018 featuring two leading experts on riparian vegetation.
“Our first Healthy Waterways Seminar, held last year, attracted a good crowd who enjoyed the opportunity to better understand the complexities of our local environment. We’re now continuing the community event series to look at vegetation and its benefits for improving water quality,” said Ms Suzanne Acret, Ballina Shire Council’s Environment Officer.
Dr Norm Duke is a Senior Research Scientist from James Cook University and a mangrove ecologist with over 40 years of experience. Dr Duke will discuss mangroves and riverbank vegetation in estuarine areas.
Mr Anthony Acret, Rous County Council’s Natural Resource Management Planning Coordinator will focus on creek and riverbank vegetation in freshwater locations. He’ll also be offering practical advice for landholders, which are outlined in Rous County Council’s Landholder’s Guide to Looking After Waterways in the Richmond Catchment. This booklet gives Richmond catchment landholders practical guidelines for waterway management.
All community members are welcome, however seats are limited.
For more information, telephone Council's Environment Officer Suzanne Acret on 1300 864 444.
