Ballina Shire is located on the New South Wales Far North Coast. The Shire is approximately 2.5 hours south of Brisbane, 9 hours north of Sydney or 1.5 hours fly time from Sydney. The shire is in a rural-coastal locality and enjoys a temperate to sub-tropical climate. It has an area of 487 square kilometers and an approximate population of 40,000 people.
