Unlawful or non-compliant activity refers to actions which are not permitted without approval or do not meet required regulations. This may include:
Council relies on community members to report these matters. Your relevant information helps us assess and investigate these effectively.
Council’s Compliance and Enforcement Policy(PDF, 3MB) provides a consistent, proportionate, fair and risk-based framework to guide staff in assessing and responding to reports of suspected unlawful activity. Each matter is assessed impartially and staff make informed decisions considering the available evidence, circumstances, and potential impact on the community, general safety or environment and public interest.
While taking enforcement action may be necessary at times, Council prefers to work with residents and businesses to raise awareness, support voluntary compliance and resolve issues early before resorting to any enforcement actions which may have to be applied. This allows our available resources to be focused on matters posing the highest risk to public safety, amenity or the environment.
Council recognises everyone has the right to raise concerns. The policy ensures these matters are handled fairly, reasonably and in the best interests of the community, helping to keep it safe, informed and supported.
