New Ballina SES Headquarters

Ballina Shire Council, in partnership with NSW SES, has commenced construction of a new, purpose-built SES unit and Emergency Operations Centre in Ballina.

The existing facility on the corner of Angels Beach Drive and Bangalow Road has reached the end of its useful life. The new building will provide modern amenities and improve operational efficiency, to enable the Ballina SES Unit to continue its vital work responding to floods, storms, tsunamis, and other emergencies.

As part of the planning phase, Council prepared a Review of Environmental Factors (REFs) for the project. You can view the environmental assessment here.

Construction commenced in September 2025. We will continue to provide updates here, including concept designs and key milestones, as the planning and project progress.

The project is jointly funded by Council and NSW SES, with completion scheduled for late 2026.

SES Building Update

Construction on the new Ballina SES Facilities are progressing well, and the community will observe the roof and cladding being installed through to early 2026.

SES Volunteers and Commanders recently visited the site to have a look over the building. During the meeting there was a huge sense of excitement and positivity whilst they were shown the physical layout and features of the building.

This project, which is jointly funded by Council and NSW SES will be finished in late 2026 and features:

New six-bay vehicle shed
Administration offices, incorporating Emergency Operations Room, training room. meeting rooms, offices, locker room with showers, laundry, storage and kitchen/dining facilities.
Carparking and lighting upgrades
Connecting footpaths and stormwater infrastructure
Landscaping and offset planting
