CCTV Community Safety Network
Ballina Shire Council is delivering a new CCTV Community Safety Network across key locations in Ballina and Lennox Head.
Enhancing community safety is one of the nine priorities identified through Council’s Community Strategic Plan. The CCTV network supports this broader priority by helping to create safer public spaces, deter crime and anti-social behaviour, and assist NSW Police with investigations and response activities.
The CCTV Community Safety Network aims to:
- improve community safety and security
- support crime prevention and deterrence
- enhance safety monitoring of public spaces
- assist NSW Police with investigations
- increase community confidence and feelings of safety in public spaces.
Preliminary works are underway, with further works continuing across Ballina CBD. Installation will be staged, with timing for future works and locations still being finalised.
This webpage will be updated as the project progresses, with information about upcoming works, locations and any temporary impacts.
This project is funded by the Australian Government through the Strengthening Community Safety – Election Commitment Funding program.
Project update – Wigmore Arcade works
Works on the CCTV Community Safety Network will continue at Wigmore Arcade on Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 September.
Works will include drilling and the installation of conduit and fibre cabling, with a scissor lift or cherry picker used for work at height.
Some temporary noise is expected and workers and equipment will be operating around and above parts of the arcade.
Stormwater investigations will also be carried out along Cherry Street, between Tamar Street and the Richmond River, from 10am to 3pm on Wednesday 9 September.
Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to businesses, customers and pedestrians.
